Herbs: Low blood sugar

The four herbs in most herbal low blood sugar formula are:

Licorice root(Glycyrrhiza glabra) – helps overcome adrenal failure by maintaining electrolyte balance, and helps adrenal gland recovery. Prevents enzymatic destruction by allowing the glucocorticoids, mineralcorticoids and sex hormones to circulate and be active.

Gotu kola (Hydrocolyte asiatica) –   helps to build up good adrenal health and body’s resistance to stress.

Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) –  normalizes physiological imbalances,  increases low blood sugar level, increases  the conversion rate of sugar into substrates to form fatty acids in the liver, stimulates RNA synthesis  that promotes the production of glucose from lactic acid in the liver, increases cellular structures responsible for metabolic function (endoplasmic reticulum) and stimulates protein synthesis.

Ginger (Zingiber Officinale) – produces no direct effect on sugar levels however it is an important herb to use by hypoglycemics as it increases the availability of nutrients for metabolism and digestion utilizes energy well during a hypoglycemic condition and helps with the “rundown” feeling.
