A drug that offers a new approach to killing cancer may offer fresh hope to patients with aggressive and deadly tumours.
Scientists have developed a drug that works in a completely new way by altering the structure of a cancer growth protein.
Other drugs that target the protein, an enzyme called RAF, merely block its activity.
By changing the entire shape of the protein, the new drug neutralises it without creating unwanted side effects.
Researchers hope the drug or its derivatives will be effective against a wide range of the fastest growing and most dangerous cancers.
They also hope to avoid the common problem of cancers developing resistance to treatment.
