EU green tax to add 1.5p to the price of a litre of fuel

British motorists face paying up to 1.5p a litre more for their fuel under a controversial ‘green tax’ being proposed in Brussels tomorrow.

The extra levy would be higher on diesel than on petrol, widening the price gap between the two even further.

The move would add to motorists’ misery at a time when more than 60p in every pound spent on fuel is already tax, say critics.
